Built by Donald McKay as his masterpiece, she was the largest wooden sailing ship ever constructed.
Burned at her New York pier before her maiden voyage in December 1853; rebuilt at reduced size and re-rigged as a three-masted ship.
Served for 19 years in the Cape Horn and Australia trades before being sold and lost at sea in 1872.
